Catherine the Cat

So I got a cat yesterday and I named her Catherine. I didn't even realize that the word "cat" was in her name until after I named her--she got her name because when I first saw her at the rescue shelter, she was sitting on a newspaper advertisement for the movie "No Reservations" starring Catherine Zeta-Jones. I realize it's phenomenally gay to name your cat after Catherine Zeta-Jones, which is another reason why I enjoy the name. Also, I'm not particularly a fan of Catherine Zeta-Jones (I'm not NOT a fan, I'm more indifferent), and I think it's kind of funny to name a cat after an actress that I have absolutely no attachment to whatsoever. I assumed that I'd be calling Catherine "Cat" for short, but then yesterday I discovered myself calling her "Cathy," which I enjoy as a cat name more than all of the other above-mentioned names combined. So I'd like to introduce you to Cathy.

This is her, y'all:

In non-cat news, Eleanor got me hooked on the amazing dating reality program Rock With Love. If you’re watching (and if you aren’t, what’s wrong with you?), I’m rooting for Heather to win Bret’s heart. (Though it would be pretty fantastic reality television to watch her go home after having tattoo’d Bret’s name to her neck.) Jess is actually my favorite girl, but I think she’s too good for Bret and so I want her to get second place and then go on to bigger and better things.

In other non-cat news, my friend Andrea hosts an essay-reading night in Miami, and she just posted a video of her latest essay on youtube, and it’s pretty brilliant. I love Andrea, you should too. Check her out:

Great Cat. I'm sure you two will be happy together.
And yes, calling her "Cathy" is probably best as it would seem very indifferent of you if you were calling for her. "Here Cat...here Cat."
Almost like Tarzan calling for his son "Here Boy...here boy."

Cathy is gorgeous and looks like she's very happy in her new home.

Rock of Love is delicious, isn't it! I've been watching it since it started and there have been some massive train wreck. I CANT STAND Lacey...she's got to go. My #1 fav is Jess...how hot is she?! But I agree, she's too good for Brett. Heather is so 80's rock chick, I love it. The heights she can get her hair to is incredible. At the end of the day, I don't think Bret will stay with which ever girl he picks. Oh, and how gross is hair/weave/rats nest and all the make up he wears?! Eck!

Naming her Cat would be okay as a call-back to Breakfast at Tiffany's, which would be even gayer than naming her after Catherine Zeta-Jones, but I also think that's been done. So Cathy is cool. And she looks a little edgy, like a disgruntled office worker, so in that way she made me think of the cartoon character.

Get one of those laser pointers. She'll love that.

Congrats on your new Cathy. Looks like she could use the love. Very cool that you went to a rescue to get her. Enjoy. Matt

Hi!
What's Cathy's personality like? I love Jesse from Rock of Love too! I actually think Brett will have the sense to choose her, but then she probably won't want to stay with him. Poor Brett. Beneath the sluttiness and sad hair/makeup situation that Gina noted, I really feel like he is a super sweet soul, maybe Jesse will really love him...

Anna, I agree with you, i think Bret is a sweet guy and not afraid of showing his emotions. Which is exactly why he doesn't need the hair ext and make up. He's got it going on just being himself.
I'm so happy Lacey is gone!!!

Cathy is regal! Well, not the name necessarily, but she looks very regal...then again, Cathy can be a regal name I guess. Like ... Princess Cathy!

Okay, it's late, but wanted to say very very cute kitty, and congrats!

I am totally rooting for Heather. I love her dearly.

That whole show is so insane and dysfunctional and I can't stop watching.

Oh my god Sheila it makes me so happy to know you're a Rock of Love fan too.

Dad--you have to come over and see my place and meet Cathy soon.

Aims, you will love her. She's totally warmed up to me more and more these last few days. This morning she walked over my face to wake me up, and I take that as love.

Gina, I have it on good authority that Bret has slept with ALL of the girls. Or at least almost all of the girls. I mean, it's obvious on the show that he's sleeping with all of them, but I have an inside source too. And I'm glad Lacey is finally gone. I mean, she was good tv, but she had to go.

And yes, Heather's hair is AWESOME. I actually have a theory about her hair and I need to watch the series again the next time VH1 has a marathon to test out my theory. But I think that all of Heather's freak-out psychotic break moments happen when she has her hair pulled back. I think she pulls it back too tight or something and it sends her into a rage. I might be wrong, but it's a theory.

FWL, I didn't even think of Breakfast at Tiffany's when I was considering the "Cat" nickname and now I kinda want to reconsider (though I can't really do that anymore because she's so firmly a Cathy now).

i love Breakfast at Tiffany's. it's one of those movies that i resisted for a long time, that people had always told me i would love but that i never watched for some reason and then it felt like i was never going to watch it because it sat there on my shelf (i owned the damned thing) for so long, unwatched. and then one day it was raining and i was feeling crappy and i put the vhs tape into the vcr and fell in love. such a great movie.

Anna, Cathy is bold and clingy, and that's totally the kind of cat I wanted, so I'm happy she's turned out that way. I'm really more of a dog person because I don't like the whole i-couldn't-care-less attitude that a lot of cats have. But Cathy's different. She cares. She wants in my business, and follows me around the house like a puppy.

Dave, yes, Catherine is kinda regal, but I think she got more down-home when she embraced the Cathyness of Catherine. If that makes any sense.

LACEY'S OUTTA HERE!!! That's reason to celebrate. Oh, yeah, and happy cat.

What do you have against homeless kittens anyway?

Love,
Eleanor

Go heather!!!!

Now that Lacey is out of the way - Heather should have a free shot. I love Heather.
